Are they really worth what they ask.....How much are (or were) they new
Autotrader has them at 10 grand for a 20 year old car.....really???
how do the nissans compare to the land cruiser and 3.2 shoguns on mpg ? thinking of a tug for 3500kg trailer probably 04/06 mdelToyotas tend to be a little optimistic with the mpg, but I would have thought you’d get close to that on a run.
I was considering one to replace my current Nissan terrano (which also has a 3.0L diesel, and has averaged very close to 30mpg over the last 40000 miles) but have decided to get either a Nissan patrol or an Amazon. I highly rate Japanese cars as a whole, had a few over the years and never had a serious fault with one.
either way I couldn’t live without a 4x4 now! Have got some Yokohama geolander a/t tyres on it and it goes anywhere. Very useful in the recent snow we’ve had here, and as I found out a couple of years ago, provided the snow doesn’t go above the height of the number plate it’ll plod through!
I've had lots of 4x4s over the years and best real 4x4 (ladder chassis vehicle not SUV) for fuel was my 300tdi Discovery, 3dr manual box, all up weight about 1800 kg, 205x16 tyres, averaged 30 mpg.
Same. My 110 200tdi does 23mpg whatever. The D2 TD5 does 25mpg regardless. The D3 gets near 28-30mpg.A friend of mine had nothing but Discos for years and always said he could never get over 25mpg but it stayed the same even when towing and he was not a particularly heavy footed driver but neither was he driving Miss Daisy.
79 series you can get them imported here but they cost an arm and a leg. They are pretty bullet proof. But if it’s cheap so he can get rid of it then it’s worth a good poke round to make sure there’s nothing too terminal.
if it’s been garaged since a no advisory mot I think it’s worth a punt.
I’d have one. I want a chassis cab but you don’t get them here. They were sold in France but mainly africa
Use to be able to get 33 mpg out of my 2.25 swb 88 series 3 with over drive. Which ain't too bad.Same. My 110 200tdi does 23mpg whatever. The D2 TD5 does 25mpg regardless. The D3 gets near 28-30mpg.
I drove an F150 in the US that got 30mpg (imperial gallons) and I wasnt light footed as it was fun so that would be a step up for me!
Not mad but you should be aware that the diesels are less reliable long term than the petrol engines as there was a specific problem they experience (cannot remember what it was, sorry)am i mad?
Not got much experience with the Colorados but got a good mate with a 100 Series (actually up for sale) with the 4.2 straight 6. Not sure what he gets miles to the gallon wise but it can't be much. It's been tweaked somewhat and all up ready for him to go camping / travelling is 3.3 tonnes so is a heavy old beast (running 35s mind).
Last time I was up with him he was having issues with the lockers - we managed to get the front working but the rear needed yet another rebuild of the actuator. Said he's had to strip it down every few years and more often than not replace bits. Conversely my Ashlockers in my 110 have been in there for four years so far without issue - I think I've changed the oil in it (at least once anyway)?!
About 4/5 years ago I went out to France with a bunch of mates - my 110, a 200Tdi 90, a 2.5 diesel P38 and a 120 series Land Cruiser. The only issues we came across were:
1. Ripped the raised air intake off the 90 and the P38 but reattached those
2. Clutch (red booster fitted the day before setting off) on the 90 needed bleeding in the middle of a forest
3. Land Cruiser lost all brakes, main dealer in the nearest town couldn't find the fault or fix it. It got recovered to the UK 2 months later and eventually fixed, the high pressure ABS pump had failed and taken out the brakes. At the cost of £2k for a second hand pump by the time you factored in the labour.
The French people we were meeting up with were big Toyota fans but they were the first to admit the newer ones aren't a patch on the older ones (no one there ran a Toyota newer than a 100 series). Although in general more reliable than other marques when they do go wrong it tends to be terminal until you can get it into a garage.
The 3.0l in my terrano isnt a great engine and had its fair share of problems in the early days, just search 3.0l Nissan grenade and plenty of stories will pop up. They did some tweaks before it went in the terrano (as well as for the patrol to improve reliability) so early 3.0l patrols should be avoided. However mine hasn’t missed a beat and it’s heading towards 150k. Like I said, it’s averaged around 29mpg but that is including all the towing I’ve done over the years, I estimate at least 10000 miles, many with 2500kg behind it. It’s towing capacity is 3000kg where as the patrol is 3500kg but unless you get a 4.2 import it’s the same 3.0 engine as in my terrano and it’s a little asthmatic when towing heavier loads, but fine every where else. Problem with the patrols is they weigh another half a ton so I should think they were even worse, very narrow torque band. I would expect a patrol to average very near 30mpg on a run, where as toyotas equivalents are usually 30-50% worse. The shoguns are supposed to be horrific on fuel! Mid 20’s according to a guy at work who uses one.how do the nissans compare to the land cruiser and 3.2 shoguns on mpg ? thinking of a tug for 3500kg trailer probably 04/06 mdel
