Iff you turn the pully around the grub screw is going to be on the outer side of the key..this is bad
I think you threw everyone off when you said you want to "rotate" the pulley. I see no reason why putting it on backwards would be a problem, like Wedg1e said, it'll be fine as long as the grub screw is pressing against something. That is not what i mean. Its not that clear in this photo, but....
both pulleys have twin grooves. But the motor is mounted such that the inner way on the motor pulley is in line with the outer way on the compressor.
Because of this, the unit has only ever been fitted with a single belt.
To fit twin belts, the motor would have to move even further off-center (of the receiver)
Or...
The pulley on the motor would have to be turned around, such as its grubscrew was on the outer face of the job.
But it seemed like i was advised against that... but im not even sure if it was advise or a joke so i was asking for confirmation, as i could see no issue with the motor pulley being mounted the other way around.
Im aware that the grooves on the pulleys have to be inline.
its allways best to keep the belt as close to the motor and pump bearings as possible but no big deal if u cant

The grub screw bears down on the square key,iff you turn the pully around the screw will be on the outside and over the empty keyway. Dooable iff you had longer key bar. What size is it as i have a load here and could send you a bitCould you explain that to me please?
I would like to rotate the pulley as the belts will then be offset slightly.
The pulley fitted looks very similar to the one in the foreground of this photo -
