Are you sure the airflow acting on the trumpet will be enough to move it?
With the correct spring it should - too stiff and obviously not! How is it like the Toyota thing you mention?
On the subject of tempering tool steel I discovered by using a temperature probe on our domestic oven that it will reach 260 degrees C.
Just have to make sure the missus dosen't catch me using it!
That would be interesting to see wendle.260 C (258 C on the thermocouple and a nice brown colour) is the temperature I have gone for for my louvre tooling. Just jigging up for it now on my old mechanical power press.
I'll create a new post if it works otherwise I will hang my head in shame if it goes pear shaped.
Interesting, it may be easier to get the results you want electronically with a servo drive to move the trumpets.
