I have a pair steel brake drums (10.5 inch) in my 1928 Chevy spares pile, they have had the worn drum part turned off and a new ring welded on, which has itself worn paper thin since. There does not seem to be a welded join in them so they may have been made from a tube.
In the quest for cheap, I'm hoping to get some rolled and then weld them on accurately enough for them to be turned to size, only the outside needs to be perfect.
I think the join may be ok as long as it's not MIGed which is too hard and will wear differently, maybe tig or stick would work better.
I know, I know, but don't panic this isn't for a road going car, although they do seem to have stood the test of time well!
