Evening Team!
First post! Nice to see the first hit on google is a UK welding forum! ACE :-)
Set up:
ARC Weldmate 140 (UK Mains)
6013 Sticks
Guys, relatively new to welding. I've taken the plunge for my group of mates and purchased a second hand welder to help with our Mini Go-Kart (Go-Ped Go-Quad) project.
A couple of times now, particulaly when welding the thinner gauge metal I've cut holes in the tube or box steel. The most recent victim was the steel exhaust pipe (2-stroke) when trying to tack weld the header back on.
My question is this; am i using the wrong stick or power setting?
1. The sticks are an undetermined age, came with the eBay auction and i wonder if this is screwing with the ARC and pool and causing me to pause longer and cut holes. Are these dodgy?
2. Are 6013 rods right for general welding. Most welds are clean (using angle grinder etc). I went looking for 6011 however scewfix etc all sell 6013
3. Am i using too much power? In order to sustain an ARC I can weld with and stop short sparking I have to have the welder turned up max. I wonder if the rod I'm using needs to have full power and is therefor cutting holes in my steel?
Appreciate this is probably a trivial question. You help is greatly appreciated in advance guys. Thanks
