Hi,
I'm totally new to mig welding. I have been using a stick welder for the past few years for making garden furniture and doing outdoor repairs. Now I want to start to do my own car body work repair as I do all my own car mechanics.
I've pretty much decided on getting a clarke branded mig. My budget is up to £400. I would need to have a dual purpose mig I.e. flux core wire and gas as I don't always have the option to weld inside.
I have narrowed down my choice (but am open to suggestions) to either a clarke mig 130en turbo or a clarke mig 151 en turbo. Are either of these suitable for welding on 1mm sheet in gas mode? Do they both have a non live torch?
I noticed that the 151 en turbo model needs a 230v 1ph power supply. Does this mean I can't run it off a standard house hold 230v plug using a 13amp plug.
I understand I need to reverse the polarity on both these machines to run gas. But what else do I need? Is it just the gas bottle and regulator? Do I need and kind of additional hose to hook the bottle up?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have 3 months until my mot and I rather nasty hole in the sill of my car. So much want to get set up and get practicing.
