Hello to all. I've been lurking a little while and think this site is great.
I do a lot of surk kayaking, and lugging a heavy kayak over rocks and sand isn't much fun. I needed a trolley of some sorts, so in a completely rash move I decided to build one myself.
I needed a welder. I bought a Wolf arc welder for £40, and spent a couple of weekends learning to arc weld.
I slipped down to B&Q and shelled out £12.98 for one of these...
The wheels are good quality pneumatic ones with proper bearings. I think a pair of them would set you back £20 so the trolley is a really good buy.
Armed with an angle grinder I cut the thing up. I borrowed a pipe bender, blagged a bit of pipe, bent it and welded it to the cut-up trolley. A spot of spray paint later, some sponge bicycle grips and voila:
I tried it out and it worked like a charm. The kayak's scupper holes fit onto the 'cowhorns'
Do you know what? It was great fun. Is that the 'welding bug'?
I've also got a VW T25 camper van. It's nearly 20 years old, so it's going to need a spot of welding. I realised the arc welder would more likely cut it in half, so I needed a MIG welder. By sheer chance, I spotted a lovely little Clarke MIG for sale in the local freeads. £60 lighter I returned with an almost new welder.
I've started messing about building a custom bicycle (see the 2/3 seater bike thread for my latest catastrophes)
Two welders for £100 - not bad. I was going to sell the arc welder, but it was only £40 and it's already paid for itself.
Crikey! I do rabbit on don't I?
Anyway - top web site and forum, I've learnt a lot from you guys.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to need some help and advice when I get around to tackling the van - I'm sure I can count on you!!!
