Ok i got a Sip Migmate 105 Turbo and i got some engine mounts i need to make out of 4mm alu. I know my welder wont give a strong enough weld on its own but what if i heat the alu up first? will it penetrate more?
I still don't think you'll get decent welds Nathan, your sip is way underpowered for 4mm alu even with pre-heat. Not worth the risk for an engine mount, cut the parts out and get them tigged, there's bound to be someone near you who'd do it for beer tokens or if the parts are small enough you could maybe post them to a forum member .
Yeah i guess your right. maybe i could just tack them together then get them tigged. If not i could just mark them up where they need to be welded. Last thing i want is for it to break.
If anyones willing to tig them for me for a coulple of beer tokens please say im sure it would only take 10 mins
I wouldn't bother to tack them, better to just mark them and let whoever's weldiing them sort the rest out in case your tacks cause contamination. No probs with steel but alu's fickle stuff.
