I've been freezing this winter. I ran out of wood for the woodburner which didn't help. The heating seemed to be struggling to keep up. It is set to go to 20C in the evening but has only managed 18.5C. The thermostat is in a warm place and I've avoided watching TV as that area only gets to about 15C.
After 2 months of this I've spent 5 minutes investigating and found that the downstairs zone opens the zone valves but doesn't trigger the boiler (bad connection somewhere probably). The upstairs zone works and triggers the boiler and that is where the heat for downstairs comes from.
On the other hand heating costs are half of what they normally are, and I've been putting on my Finnish underclothes from last winter to keep warm, saving on bills, and not wasting time watching any telly. Might look into this a bit more.
