hi everyone,
why is it that when i weld stuff like mild steel together it sometimes forms some kind of ridiculously hard material?
i let it cool naturally in the air so i don't think its rapidly cooled in anyway.
could it be cheap nasty steels that have something in them that changes once welded?
I've just tried turning something I've welded and its hard as nails! ended up using the grinder to get past the hard bit and now it turns beautifully (now that I've sharpened my tool after the hard bit ruined it!) so I'm wondering how i stop it happening again?
or then again could it be blunt tools causing work hardening in the first place?
