GYS Protig 201 AC/DC

Hello I am looking for a AC/DC tig for welding silicon bronze sculpture and considering the GYS model. In the specs it says 160 amps in DC mode can anyone confirm this or have a review of the machine as ideally I would require 200 amps min, cheers.

Hi Damon! Yes, this particular machine is only 160A on DC, with 200A on AC.
I’m assuming as you’re looking at the GYS TIG you’re wanting something a little better than the sub 1K Chinese made sets?

if so, I may have a set worth considering which is the Paton ADI 200 PAC AC/DC. It’s made in the Ukraine and its overall quality is outstanding and value for money is brilliant.
Alternatively, if you’re not bothered whether it’s Chinese made then the Parweld XTT 212 is an outstanding choice.

Best explanation of the RIV feature is straight from the operator manual for the Paton:

“The equipment is the only one of its kind on the market to have the RIV spot welding (SPOT) option, which is used for overlapping (splicing) of thin sheets (up to 1.5 mm, with a drilling up to 5 mm - a hole-and-spot joint) of steel, alloyed steels, as well as for joining sheets before butt welding. The method consists in introducing a short heat pulse (0.1-4 s), during which the surface of the sheet, which is affected by an electric arc, is melted and welded to the sheet directly below it.”

Think the ewm has had that function , or one similar for ages , but at that price thats outrageous ,, do they do migs as well ?

Aye, possibly a very similar version of it. They do MIG's, yes indeed. Paton's PSI range up to 250A single phase, up to 500A 3 phase. All with pulse MIG, DC Lift TIG & MMA. You can also get their multi process sets with HF DC TIG too.

It certainly is. The value for money, build quality and support they've shown us so far has been great.

I recently bought a GYS ProTIG 201 from hisltd.co.uk - significantly cheaper than advertised elsewhere, great bit of kit, I'm new to TIG and the 'easy' AC settings seem to work well.

Whatever mode I'm using, there is sometimes a different amperage flashing when I stop welding - usually higher than I'd set.
I can't find anything in the manual about it, clearly there is some 'auto adjustment' going on, I'm not sure why though!
In TIG, the torches are 2T, no pulse settings and no foot pedal is connected. The same happened today stick welding (and yes, I'd set the machine to MMA)
Any ideas?

To be clear, there's nothing 'wrong' with the machine and it welds well, I was curious as to why the amperage reading changed and is flashing.

Hi guys, I just bought a new protig 201ac/dc. I think Tig HF non-contact doesn't work. Any ideas. This type of ignition is selected but I have to contact the electrode on the metal.
