I’ve got an aging safan 2500x4mm capacity guillotine currently. I got it cheap and have abused it for 4 years! Probably owes me around £2.5k including a few repairs it’s had
It really now needs a set of new blades as the current are past sharpening (I need to check if I can rotate them) and it’s refusing to cut full width and it’s leaving bad burrs In the parts it’s cutting.
It needs work to the backstop as there’s play in parts and also broken parts from previous abusers and the chain and sprockets are worn meaning it runs out across its width. Also the backstop is motorised but there’s no readout or controller
Really to get it upto good condition I would be looking at about 3k plus
So I’m looking at replacing it I’m starting to cut a lot of 3mm sheet so would like to go bigger capacity anyway.
Just wanted to ask are there any brands to avoid? I haven’t set a full budget yet as I suspect I will need to look into financing part of the purchase. I can get a good used machine for around 10k from some research
Am I best to go new edwards Pearson, carter or other cheap brand or look for a used machine? I’m slightly dubious about buying used as I’ve no idea what the state it will be if it’s just been tarred up for sale by a dealer or is a decent machine!
Thanks In advance.
