The frame is a GSX 1100l from a bike I bought years back for the engine. Depends on your taste I suppose, but to me the 1100l is ugly to say the least. However the frame was in really good shape for a '79 Suzuki. Straight, unmodified and rust free, which meant it was too good to scrap. It also meant that there wouldn't be any crisis of conscience chopping it about, changing the running gear etc.
The plan as it stands is :-
use up some of the spare ET/EX bodywork kicking about
shorten the back end to bring the ET light into a better position
clean the lines up generally and get rid of brackets etc
Bandit 1200 engine converted to injection
Bandit 1200 forks, swing arm and wheels with the forks upgraded and arm twin shocked
There are a couple of other plans and wrinkles but they're still in the TBD as to exactly how and what.
Pictures then
Dug out and dragged off of the rack.
It will be getting this 1200 lump
with a set of GSXR600 throttle bodies
There are a few differences between the 1100l and the ET in terms of brackets and mounts. The tank bobbins for example are further back and lower down, the rear mount is much further forward etc.
Out with the angry grinder and they're out of the way. I'll cut the bobbins off of the mount and weld them into the ET/EX position.
Time to cut off the rear peg hangers and have a look with the arm in to check that the twin shock idea is the way to go.
I have two of these aftermarket seats, no idea where they came from or with which bike? Anyway, I kept them because although I don't need the lower seat position I like the less 'clumpy' line. So a quick double check that the seat and tank meet in the right place now that the old mounts are gone.
Another application of the angry grinder.
Then some rough cutting to get the overall line where I want it and see how it looks.
So I think the basic line works along the top of the bike, called it a day at that. Next things will be to get the top hats sorted for the swing arm pivot, swap the Bandit stem for the GSX stem and then start working out heights, shock mount positions etc and get it sitting as a roller.
