Application - milling aluminium. This sort of stuff -
etc.
Previously, ive used cutters from R.L. Schmitt in america. They last an age, and produce an excellent finish. However, they always cost a fortune (esp once parcelfarce took their 'processing' [not vat] charge).
Single flute is nice for me, as i only really cut with the tip, and, when it does dull, or i hit the wrong button and snap the cutter, i can re-grind the end on a diamond wheel. Indeed, if the flutes dull on a single flute, if youre only working with very shallow cuts, you can even grind back the tip to work on a different part of the cutter, without jigs and the like.
Anyhow, theyve stopped making them now, i think, and, besides, id like to find a more local option (as in uk)
I once, some years back, thought id just grab some cheap cutters off ebay (via china) and they were crazy - the rake angle was all wrong, they had no chance of cutting well (i mean ever, even out of the box) which has made me cautious of spending money on unknowns.
So, can anyone recommend a uk source of good quality carbide, with sensible geometry? I know there are a number of sellers now, so id like actual real recommendation, rather than a list that i could get off google! : )
Thank you,
Julian
