300 feet is doable from your 1ph supply theoretically. You'd just need to use quite a thick diameter cable to minimise the voltage drop over the distance (as long as the cable run was possible).Thanks guys. a lot to take in. the supply i'm now using is a 240volt single phase. the trouble is the supply point is too far away from the job. extension is out of the question as it is at least 300 feet. but thanks to one and all.

@ GRW With out being rude, this is probably why the instructions say exactly what you then said about a generator.
The manual just says what the mig needs it has nothing to do with cost, who builds it, whether it‘s red, pink or blue, just their recommendation of size and type.
so in fact they do know what they‘re talking about.

and 2.5mm cable would give a 9v drop over 100m at 13amps as a temporary extension. So well with in the plus/minus 10% the machine should be rated at.
