It's a problem of control. My wife regularly walks with our two dogs (Vizslas). There is a footpath that crosses the A21 (quite busy) with an awkward style. If the dogs are on leads they cannot 'land' on the far side as it's longer than the lead. If they jump over unleaded it's asking for trouble on a trunk road even though they are well behaved. The solution until recently was to open the gate next to the stlye, but now it's locked! Other style on the same footpath have a raising 'portcullis' so the dog can go through. Both my dogs can easily clear a 6 foot fence but it would be rash to let them, and cause an accident.
I make my dog sit then I climb the stile and call her to me, whether she uses the stile or finds a gap is up to her but she always finds a way. I really like your gate well thought out simple and practical.
