Having struggled with a bolshie arc welder for many years, I have to say that mig welding (so far seems to be)/is pure delight; a couple of items are puzzling me though, - first, after making a weld line and removing the gun, I have occasionally kept my finger on the trigger and extruded a couple of inches of wire. Should this be trimmed off before resuming, or just burnt down during next strike?.
When I bought my mig (SIP T105P), I also bought a regulator for disposable bottles (I'm using CO2/Argon mix), the regulator is graduated 0 to 6 with 6 being fully screwed down, and this being the only setting which will release gas, and this, not at a very high pressure either. Should I be able or need to regulate gas flow at the regulator, or does the gun control do it automatically? I have to say that the test welds I've been making 'seem' to be OK. Being unsure, and before I discovered this forum, I went and bought another regulator at Halfords, this is a little brass thing just graduated 0 to +, which screws down anticlockwise; it has a standard push fit connection and what appears to be an overpressure safety opposite. I cannot get this to release any gas whatsoever at any setting. Could it be faulty, or just the wrong type for these cylinders?
TIA
