I'm new to welding and have been going along to an evening class at my local college. The lecturer likes a gas mig setup. I want to buy a welder and need some help making my mind up.
I have a few projects in mind - 1. I need to build a trailer for my 4 metre boat.
2. My vans roof has nearly rusted through at a join so that'll need done.
3. Other bits and pieces at home.
Here's some other info that might help...
I probably won't use it that much - so don't really want the annual rental of gas bottles.
I like the simplicity of a stick welder, though probably won't manage to weld the (very thin) van roof. A gas/Gasless mig appeals - I can live with buying the small bottles for when I need to work on thin metal. I appreciate flux core wire is much more expensive than oridnary Mig wire.
My garage is full of junk so all of my welding will be outside.
I have only a domestic electricity supply - probably limit me to something around the 130amp mark (I think-from what I've read here)
I think I've 3 choices 1. a gas/nogas mig,
2. arc
3. inverter arc
Any ideas on which type and which make/model I should buy. What should I look for in the machine?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Ben
