@ajlelectronics there was a fascinating programme on the equivalent of radio 4 on the bastardisation of French with all the English / American anachronisms on the net. It's the ' academie francaises' (should have capital letters). Which choose what passes and doesn't in the French language. Ended up quoting that horrendous American rapper m&m. Stan, that awful song from 10 odd years ago, ended up In the French dictionary as an abbreviation for stalker and fan therefore Stan. So basically anything passes nowadays. The programme went on to discuss how few linguists are actually in the Academic Francaise, and it's mainly writers.
I digress.
I am a bit south of you and our place pre-dates Napoleon, so lots of fun..
The AF is pretty moribund, by the time they get to talk about new words or expressions, they are in common use and nobody takes any notice. Mainly a talking shop for purist writers. They do like their titles and robes..
I would go the Polyester/GRP route for the bathroom, with an extra coat of epoxy( or flowcoat?) to ensure water proofing. Like you, I do some boat work and am comfortable with it. Substrate of water proof chipboard or ply. The fun is getting the falls right and better to a centre drain, as any failure is likely to be round the edges
When we moved in the lower storey was habitable, lots of bedrooms and a tiny shower room and WC. But had a decent woodstove and a couple of DeVille oil heaters, quite handy as it was January. There was a crude fosse septique that drainerd into a ditch
Since then, converted the loft for bedrooms and knocked out partions below for a decent dining room and study. Converted the small barn into a gîte, which is rented out. Some of the internal walls were thin brick, that with plaster and paper, were only 50mm thick. Compared to the outside and the main inside walls of 60cm stone.
New drainage system was quite a project as they considered it three dwellings, so big tanks and a 50sq mt drainage field. Did all the work myself, except for the big digging. Our ground is quite rocky, so a rented mini digger was not going to do it for near 100 cu mts of holes.
Still plugging on with the loft at the far end, two more bedrooms and another shower-room/WC, which makes four in the main house. Never ends.
