On the outer hebrides you get a normal wheelie bin collection then in every village near the shop etc there's a big skip thing which has the various holes for cans glass paper etc.
But beacause the communities are quite remote, they obivously can't justify building all these manned "waste & recycling" centres. So they just leave the big truck mountable container sized skips by the road on a bit of hard standing gravel. You usuaully see 1 every 10 miles or so, and if you have a large item of rubbish you just lob it in!
