Hi Guys,
This is my first post so apologies if it is in the wrong place.
The short version of my problem is that I have been using a certain brand of wire for years without issue until recently.
The replacement spool of 0.9mm flux cored mild steel wire just wont weld to an acceptable standard. Regardless of speed of power settings it comes out black and horrible.
I had been using the mig with the same brand of wire the previous day with no problems but to prove my mig was ok I bought a roll of SIP wire and it is perfect.
The supplier exchange the spool for one of the same batch, this was the same poor. They sent it back to their technical dept and I got a call saying that 2 independent welders have tried it and it is fine.
I then bought 2 smaller spools of the same brand and the one I put in is the same i.e welding very badly.
Again to prove my machine I borrowed a friends, tried it to see how it welded with his wire and it was fine. Put my wire in, duff and put his wire in my machine and it was fine.
So with all your experience can anyone shed some light on whats wrong with this wire? I have sent an email to the manufacturer so hopefully they can tell me if they have changed suppliers or process.
Meantime I am getting wire of a different manufacturer. I haven't mentioned the brand to avoid hassle but if anyone needs to know then I send me a PM.
Thanks
Colin
