Can’t find a wire section!
I was amazed at the difference between flux core wires after changing one spool for another. From crisp clean welds to black sooty blobs and the ability to weld gone.
My first wire was a non branded sample spool supplied with my welder, the second a reel of Super 6 from Ebay. It produced billowing black smoke and soot, the weld would not flow, just blob and pile. Uping the ampage gave blobs and holes!
I am now trying to find reasonably priced flux wire that can be relied on and wondered if any forum members would like to contribute their findings. I will list what I have found so far and anybody is welcome to add or correct.
Firstly the most used general wire seems to be E71T-14 so I will stick with just this and not complicate matters. Its application (Lincoln):
GOOD WIRES
SIP .....Found on Ebay etc. Reasonably priced.
SIF .....Quite pricy, but said to be good.
UN-CLASSIFIED
Impax .....Screwfix, reasonably priced, may be ok according to one members remark.
BAD WIRES
Super 6 .....Ebay & motorfactors, cheap but dreadful
FORUM FAVOURITE
???
It is possible that brand quality could change as most product will be bought in and not manufactured.
Hopefully this may help somebody avoid losing a weekends work swearing at lumps of carbon, as I have!
