I was talking with the guy at my local garage, who explained that on the main service they put flushing oil in after draining the old oil.
My thoughts were that when oil is drained from the engine, lots of moving parts from rods to tappets remain coated in oil-a good thing. When flushing oil is put in and the engine is run briefly, the oil coating is washed from these parts. After draining the flushing oil, the new oil is put in. But, there is a small period of time before the moving parts are all fully coated with oil again. (Worst than cold engine starts of freezing winter-the time of maximum wear)?
My personal thoughts are what a bad idea this is, or at the very least, what a totally unnecessary procedure. With regular oil & filter changes, and the use of modern engine oils, just what is the point.
I welcome opinions and healthy debate from others that feel different about this.
