So I know it's not welding but it's what I've been kept busy with so why I'm not playing in the garage, as much as I'd like. I thought I'd share as it's, very very slightly 'fabrication'
Extension built and original ceiling was around 10mm higher than new, but it also sloped upwards to the new
I double boarded and levelled as best I could, it looks to the eye fine.
But when you present anything with a straight edge and plum it, it shows the slope. After setting the extractors ceiling support plum, the top casing showed the packers around the top.
Here's the casing attached and the gap.
I measured the space between the ceiling and the screw hole (around 20mm).
Using a 20mm x 20mm piece of wood trim I had, I presented it to the ceiling and pencilled a cut line around the casing. You can see the markings on the photo above and ......
Took it down and outside to cut with angle grinder and thin zircon disk.
There was some slight discolouration on some parts of the cut, I think that was when I slowed down to correct the line. Having cut both fixing holes, they had to be re-drilled, but re-drilling the one on the side with the gap would have meant it would be about 10mm lower than the other.
So I cut it at same distance from ceiling (as it should be) marked the hanging frame and drilled a new hole in the mounting frame.
The results ....
This screw needs replacing and the hole straightened a bit, from the floor it looks fine but it's all in the details. Will deal with it soon.
Side where the gap was ....
From afar.
Would like to clean the discolouration, what would be best?
I've read that baby oil is good for rubbing the stainless down to remove the hand marks etc?
The other little annoyances, marks on the ceiling etc from fitting will be tidied up when the emulsion comes out again.
There are also pics of the venting system going through the garage to roof vents in an album (if anyone wants a look).
