Recently, the opportunity arose to acquire myself a little Arc Inverter at a price that wouldn't break the bank. As it happens, I was very much in need of one; to allow some repairs to the cast exhaust manifolds on my beloved old Jag - so I ran it past the Woman In-charge of Finance and Expenditure (WIFE) and purchased it.
Unfortunately, the unit came without an electrode holder - which I managed to sort out this weekend.
With all of the stars finally in alignment, and after much reading of Malcolm's fine tutorial, I finally settled down in the garage this afternoon for my first attempt at welding with a stick.
Here's my first attempt:
Thought I was probably moving the electrode a little too fast, so made a conscious effort to slow it down a little.
It's strange but, for some reason, I couldn't help speeding up as the electrode got shorter. Doh!
So, after much thought, I finally arrived at this.....
I think I'm getting there - but, as always, any feedback from those more experienced will be very gratefully received.
Don't know if it's just me - but is there something more satisfying about arc welding than MIG (sorry if that's a bit controversial ).
