Hi everyone. Took me about 25 days to weld up the body! I really don't know how restorers do it as I really had minimal rust!
The rubber stonechip is mostly removed.
With the undercarriage, wheel arches, engine bay, my plan was to blast off any surface rust, and sand/roughen up the solid paint. I don't want to blast it all off because of risk of warping. Someone wrote that the factory paint was done in ideal conditions so is actually a good substrate to paint on. That sounds reasonable to me
With the exterior bodywork there isn't any real rust, so just sanding.
Can I get some tips on how to get this done. I'm using a paint scraper and dental tools to remove the seam sealer. MBX tool is totally over rated as it can't get into most places. I'm using cheap 120 grit sand paper as it's flexible. I'm using IPA to degrease the engine bay.
I was thinking to use caustic cleaner right at the end as Jotun say that thinners are risky for removing grease as they can just spread it around.
There's places where the rubber stonechip can't be reached with the MBX tool. I have found acetone gets it off, but it's slow.
Any more tips welcome !!
