Not even a Lambogeeny?I've never seen a rusty sheep so it must be good
Apparently. This is the stuff I was looking at: https://www.lanoguard.co.uk/ Pricey but looks easier to apply than some others.Do they use it on oil rigs?
Many years ago, when I was working in an aerospace manufacturing company, any machined components that weren't stainless steel (and not ally or other stuff) were lanolin dipped between machining processes when there was likely to be a delay, so the parts never rusted while waiting. It worked, however, I didn't know how well that sort of treatment would hold up underneath a vehicle.Never heard of it till now,not much mention of it on metal in wiki
But its good to know it might stop sore spots in the nostrils.
But were those parts battered with stones grit water and salt etc? Many years ago, when I was working in an aerospace manufacturing company, any machined components that weren't stainless steel (and not ally or other stuff) were lanolin dipped between machining processes when there was likely to be a delay, so the parts never rusted while waiting. I only asked because its the usual advertising blurb anyone who wants to sell a rust remover/paint/rust preventer uses. My thoughts are that oil rigs would buy stuff if its cheap, can be bought in bulk and if it works thats an added bonus.Apparently. Never heard of anyone using it on platforms so if it has been it's certainly not the norm.Do they use it on oil rigs?

I think they use things like Shell Ensis. Ensis is used by the army for outdoor storage, and is very good - I have the remains of a drum that I used to preserve my workshop when it was in storage for a year - but it leaves a fairly thick layer on the surface so is not suitable for working machinery. It cleans off with white spirit.
