Ferris wheel work station.

Whilst trying to get better use of the space in my workshop I have come up with an idea for my grinders.

It might work, it might not.
It might already have been done if it does work.
I have found similar idea but this is for screws and things.

I have 5 grinders for various applications (twin wheel type) and they take up a lot of desk.
So imagine a wheel like the one

in this link. Probably made out of aluminium strip , (as I have a fair amount) welded round a center boss.

It's a shame I can't model as it might show me if it's possible. (It might need to be wall mounted, but not above a desk. And pinned for each grinder as it comes round.
I would imagine one of the sticking points might be weight. As I am guessing I would need a lot on the underside to keep them.level as I turned it. But perhaps they would be OK upside down and pinned to orientate them for use???

Let's see if one exists or anyone has any suggestions other than a straight jacket.

I have two. They’re just on the wall with 90 degree brackets. Keeps them out of the way.

There is a video somewhere of a guy got two put bottom to bottom on a swivel if that makes sense? He’s designed it so it only swivels 180 deg so no cable entanglement.

They turn in the x axis as it were.

What you really need is a sturdy mounting cabinet, with shelves and a quick release bracket...

How about a set of “pigeon holes”, like we had at work for incoming mail. Say about 6 inches square and 12 to 15 inches deep or size to suit your grinder collection. Grinder and coiled cable in each.

What do you need 5 bench grinders for anyway? I've got two and one never gets used.

I've screwed each of my grinders to a short piece of ply wood and clamp them to the bench when I need one. I've also shortened the cables so they reach the usual socket and not much more, 600mm long at most. When not in use they stay on a shelf.

Just make a five-faced cardboard box that fits over the four sides and top of the grinder when it is sitting on the bench. That will be enough to assess clearances. For the cables, something like what is inside the head of a Henry might work.

I never knew the name for them. Seen them in parts counters before.

You still see them in Germany sometimes

Friend lived in an apartment in Berlin and he had one. It didn’t stop. Not sure if that’s normal or not…. You got on while it was moving, like cable cars.

They had one at Sheffield Uni when I was toying with going there. Awkward thing really and relies on some common sense and coordination. Don't find much of that at university.

But never open and in the cities when I been there. AFAIK they run continuously, that's part of the attraction. That and standing on your hands as they go over the top to convince people the boxes turn over.

A carousel makes good use of a corner ,a lot less faffing about and easier to make than a ferris. Just saying.
