Hello
I'm new to MIG Welding and have come here via the Mk1 Classic Mini forum, where I was advised to learn MIG Welding to do some body work on my car. I'm going to take a local course to help me with learning but, in the meantime, I wondered whether forumites could offer advice on the current welds in my car.
For background, I have bought a part finished project. Sections of it, like the boot area, were covered in black underseal that I've slowly been removing to reveal the state of the body work. I've been a little surprised by some of the welds I've found and welcome reading your thoughts on the following images.
This image shows a welded panel on a wheel arch. The vertical section just appears to be tacked in place, or am I missing something?
Adjacent to it is the boot floor and there's a gap of about 5mm. Would you normally expect this? Would you cover it with seam sealer? Is there something else you would do?
This next image shows some more welds in the same area:
The area bounded by the yellow box is a gap between the boot floor and the wheel arch. It's about 5mm wide. I'm guessing it wasn't finished by the prior owner. What would you do here?
The area bounded by the green box shows some holes through the boot floor to a strengthening panel underneath. This had been covered by a fuel tank stand that I cut away so I could examine the area. How would you repair this?
The area bounded by the blue box, shows what a vertical gap (illustrated by the blue coloured arrows) of about 7mm from the wheel arch to the boot floor. I *think* the upper (bronze coloured) section is where the original floor used to go and, for whatever reason, the patched floor doesn't marry up to it. How would you approach this?
I am aware that there is a floor repair panel available that would cover all the sections here, except for the wheel arch. Would you consider fitting that rather than trying to repair any issues you see here?
Thanks in advance.
