As per title, what was this tool used for? I can see it is for pulling/tensioning something, but I am interested , in what it was actually used for, as I like the history of old tools?
Tensioning the copper alloy open wires phone lines of old that were on pot insulators , the box it comes in should also have a thermometer and a tensioning chart as the wires droop at differing levels over different temperatures .
Don't tension properly and the wires tangle when it's hot and windy & can also end up as a safety hazard if they droop too much when going over a road or rail crossing .
Any idea of the purpose of what looks like rubber circles at the anchor end? I was wondering if it were an insulator but the middle plate looks continuous. Thanks.
Hmm. Got a couple of those (dad was GPO). Only ever used them myself (general electrical install) for holding and tensioning catenary cables while making off ends. Unlike yours, mine has a hard rubber ball cast around that link - assumed it was a handgrip.
