as far as EV's and fuel cell cars go they ahve big problems to overcome
batterys are an enviromental devastation to produce as far as i understand and you still have to generate the electricty in the first place and loose a far bit by the time it gets to the wheels.
hydrogen, the big myth is your just burning water to make water, while you can smash up H20 to get your hydrogen useing electrolosys ( that needs a far bit of juice ) so you've still got to geneate the electricty to do that. then spend 1/2 the energy you'll get from it compressing it to get a usefull amount in a reasonable size cylinder ( iirc it needs 5000 ish psi ) as hydrogen isn't really intrested in dropping into a liquid state at sensible pressures or tempritures. hydrogen is actualy made on an industrial scale by steaming it out of natural gas. hot methane + superheated steam in the presance of a catalyst = hydrogen and co2 so why not just burn the natural gas
alcohol is however a good fuel. grain is cheep and i chould make my 30 yr old golf run on pure ethanol with relative ease it may even go faster as well
