most jobs can be done with hss tipped tools apart from hard metals like stainless and cast iron. learn to sharpen them
so are hss tipped tools and can be had for a couple of quid from auto jumbleWell initial opinions are good, tips are deffo not great for the harder stuff, I shattered a tip on some duplex stainless within about 5 mins, but on mild, brass, Ali and phozzy bronze they're spot on, which is fair enough
But my dinky bench grinder would last about 5 minutes if I took it off tungsten duty and started sharpening tools on it!quick change tool posts and tip tools I have 3 cranked hss tipped tools and I've used them for years I have a couple of carbide tipped tools and a replaceable bit carbide tool for hard materials and a tool post that that takes a couple of tools.if your any good at machining I recommend u sharpen your own

The holders are spot on, cannot tell the difference between them and rdg'sDeja vu...
@Tinbasherdan But the holders are good Dan? Thats all that really matters.
The same set is available in a 5pc without tips but includes a 16mm and 20mm boring bar for about £25.
stainless and cast iron
not all cast iron is soft it can have hard spots in it unless it has been heat treated and can knack even carbide tipped toolsCast iron is quite soft.
Hss should have no problem with it.
