As some of you know I recently acquired a Drummond M from one of the members here, I have spent the last two or three weeks generally cleaning and familiarising my self with it. It is still on the floor whilst I have a garage sort out and build it a bench but at the weekend I could wait no longer I just had to try turning down some metal. Brass was kind of OK and turning down 8.8 bolts was making some nice curly swarf, but the finish is terrible so I went on a gib screw tightening mission, all was going well until I discovered that the cross slid gib screw tighten directly onto the dove tail, the gib plate is missing.
I have asked on the Drummond Yahoo page but will ask again to a wider audience here.
What are my options? Can a replacement gib strip be bought off the shelf? Can a replacement from say Myford be modified to suit? Can one be made, remembering that I have only hand tools, a drill press and a dismantled lathe?
Any help or pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.
