A friend seems confusingly keen on cleaning up their dive compressor. Hes a good friend, but ill not be happy if he gets another one.
This is the finished shot -
And this is how it turned up (needed some welding also) -
Electrolysis with NaOh, which stripped the paint also -
Part way through -
Start of the clean up. It was a pain, as i had to hand sand all those slots to get the grime off the edges.
The top was real pitted, so a skim of dolphin glaze over the epoxy.
And the same shot of the end result -
It looks smart enough now, but im not convinced i got enough coverage on the inside. My gun wouldn't fit properly into it, and my smaller gun is out of action at present, but its an inside device, and will probably get splattered in oil soon enough anyway, so i doubt it really matters.
I dont know how old the thing is, but i think 30 years or so? Its for filling diving air tanks.
Its single stage 2k paint. As per my previous comments, i think an amount of peel is preferable with these finishes - they're not race cars, and some surface texture massively reduces the visibility of finger prints.
Again, for an old friend, and there wasn't money involved, but, as i said, i wont be too happy if he decides to buy another.
