With the short distance between the cab and rear wheels they remind me of the Swedish tractor cars the kids drive.
I found the body on my Disco was rotten so chopped the back off with intention of making such a pick-up but, as you say above, found that unless you have a large rear overhang the usable load area was tiny and looked weird. IMO the only way to get a decent looking Disco pick-up is to extend wheelbase.
no worries mate, i was going to drop it off this weekend so youve saved me a tripJumped a step forward and sorted the chassis.
A 6ft bed does stick out a fair bit behind the crossmember and might look a bit wierd, not sure what length to make it now.
Is the crossmember strong enough to have a d ring welded to it with a spreader plate?
(P.s sorry @Tinbasherdan , had an unexpected day off and just quickly picked one up from a local land rover place)
What about using 3mm plate to make mounting plates you can then bolt on and bolt off the bed if you have another solution later like a tractor unit to tow big ****.
You'd ideally want spreader plates on both sides and crush tubes between. It's more or less what Land Rover did I think with tow bars.Is the crossmember strong enough to have a d ring welded to it with a spreader plate?
mix a small amount of sand in with the paint for the floor ,instant non slip, have used it on plant , believe me it works.
Just purchased a tin of anti slip paint
2mm steel should be ok weight wise, i can still lift the whole thing myself so its not too heavy yet ...
Would i be right in thinking 500kg is about the max for a disco? I had 700 in the back of my old one once, it was actually ok
