Next to our estate was raf Sealant Flintshire,we used to drag car bonnets ect up the curved aircraft hangers must have been 100ft or more.
Eight of us sliding down got some speed up..
My kids were both born in the nineties and they didn't get to roam wild like I did in the seventies, with us it just felt less safe, there was a lot more in the media about peadophilia ,abduction ect and all the parents got the same kind of group hysteria.I’m a bit younger than some of the posters but my childhood in the 80’s was spent in the addy (adventure playground) building things, breaking things, riding bikes off things and ending up in hospital...
I’m sure the molly coddling started then tho, a lad in my class at school (age 17) killed 3 people driving his car like a .... and I think it was (partly) because he had been protected all his life and his actions were prevented from having consequences, I seem to remember him being picked up and dropped off right by the school gates daily, he never even had to cross a road then they let him drive on them
Did that on Christmas day,got a speedo for my bike ,found the biggest hill ,wanted to get up to 30 , did, looked up to see a parked up Transit a foot away..bang.Driving your car head-on into a stationary lorry is not something I recommend, even at 30mph [and no seatbelt]........
