I'm nearing the stage where I can start getting some paint onto my bare MG Midget shell and would just like to confirm that I'm heading in the right direction. The shell is bare metal (mostly) and top coat is going to be cellulose. This is my plan for the underside at the moment:
A. Key the bare metal
B. Seam seal
C. Epoxy primer (HB Body 989)
D. Stonechip (Gravitex probably)
E. High build celly primer
F. Colour (Celly - though might brush apply 2k for better protection under wheel arches)
Outer panels
A. Key the bare metal
B. Fill as required
C. Epoxy primer (HB Body 989)
D. High build celly primer
E. Colour
My main concern is the epoxy primer as the last time I painted a car I used a thin wash etch on the bare metal before priming so epoxy is new to me. Should I use an etch primer? I'm also not sure about the filler before primer and stonechip after primer stages.
I'm probably going to do the underside in the next few weeks but will wait for spring to do the top side (bad timing I know).
Can anyone see any major flaws in my plan and if so point me in the right direction! The one thing I can't change is the cellulose as I haven't the equipment for spraying 2k.
Thanks for any advice!
