First off, I'm really frustrated with my boss, and the company I work for. They are "old school" all the way. They continue to rebuild everything. Everything is sooooo old and worn out, that the cost of new ones would be money ahead in the long run. Did I mention the welding floor was under 6' of water in 1993? All the welders were under water. Enough venting, lol. We run lincoln dc-400 power sources, ln-9 wire feeders, .045 wire, and tweco guns. Our gas is 95-5. The problem I have is that my welder has the tendency to start cold, sputter, then nuke the tip in the gas difusser before the contact tip. I change contact tips, it welds fine for like 2-3 minutes, then it does it again. The tip is sometimes glowing red. I changed the tip and the difusser today and seemed ok till quitting time. I run 24-25 volts, and 325-360 ipm wire speed, depending on the material. If I change to a rebuilt lead, it will last a couple weeks before it acts up. I changed wire feeders also at one time and it still did it. I should just get a new job, lol. HELP!!
