Hello!
So recently i got short contract (three weeks) in place where i got to weld on machine that puzzled me. I took a picture, but now unfortunatelly cannot find it. Anyway. No manual, barely readeble labels of knobs, or name. Anyway machine itself was prahistoric looking transformer type. No display and basically just three knobs to use. Two paired together - small increments, large increments and third one. Been lost for week as i expected increments knobs to be function of Voltage and last one wire speed which would be function of current. Turned out that i was wrong. Increment knobs were for amperage last one wire speed, no voltage setting at all.
Do you someone recognize types of machines which would be set up like this? I weld professionally just few months, so maybe im just thick, but never worked on machine on which i couldnt set voltage (except pulse welding).
Right now im reading in aws handbook that early gmaw machines used constant current power source which kinda seems to fit, but cannot find anything about them on net so do not know if it is possible to still find them.
Would love to find out more especially as i didnt find easy to set them up (cannot find anything about setting machines up if only thing u control is current and wire speed independently...)
