Hi guys,
I've been wanting to try welding for some time now, and I feel as if I'm ready to take the plunge. The only problem is making a decision on what Mig welder to buy - there is so much information on here, it's a little bewildering. And scary, to be honest - especially the threads on buying a sub-standard welder and then upgrading it until it works properly!
Anything I buy I'd like to work first time without me having to ****** about modifying it, so I know that any shonkiness in the welding will be down to me, and not the machine. It will be used in the garage, mainly on my kit car:

(I've decided to remake a lot of my brackets and hangers as they're all bolted together at the moment. I figure I could loose 5-6Kg of weight by ditching the fastners!) - It may also get used in restoring a friend's disco - if it doesn't fall apart by the time I get proficient.
What do you suggest as a good welder that will get light occasional use to start with, but may be used for bigger more involved jobs later on?
All I know so far is to steer clear of SIP & COSOMO... And that gas rather than gassless seems to be the way to go. I won't set a budget yet, so feel free to scare me silly on the price front.
Thanks in advance,
Jason (GOO)
