It has struck me that among my large collection of hammers I don't have a carpenters/joiners claw hammer. If I need one I have to borrow my dads but I want to get my own.
I am looking for advice on what are good makes to look out for.
The name Estwing regularly comes up as a good hammer but my limited experience of them is not positive. At a previous employer one of the other maintenance staff had a estwing with the shaft wrapped in hide strips & varnished. It looked fancy but I hated using it as did all the other guys, the handle was horrible to hold & it just didn't feel balanced. Maybe a wooden shafted one would be better?
