Hi.
I've been looking at your site for many weeks now. It's a great place for info and advice, thanks to all.
My welding expierience started back in 1979 with a commercial body works apprenticship. But most of my work was stick welding, which I have to say I can get by pretty well with. I have used a fair amount of MIG but mostly aluminium and stainless. I don't work any more and havn't welded with MIG for probably 10 years. Although I keep my hand in with stick on and off.
I wanted a welder for home use, mainly bodywork on a camper van. Knowing a lot of time I will have to work outdoors I decided to go for gasless, which again I have used, probably 10 years back.
Anyway my question. With my budget I decided to go for used and have ended up with a Clarke MIG 151EN Turbo, which seems to get a good shout on your site. I just got it out the box, It looks like it's had medium use and pretty tidy for the money I paid, (a little over £100). I've not had a chance to put it to use yet, I've not even got any scrap steel to practice on. But I've turned it on ant it seems to run, the wire tensions ok and it strike an arc. But I know it's fan assisted, should the fan run all the time, or does it cut in during use? This one the fan does not run when the machine is switched on, and I won't have a chance to give it a good run for a week.
Sorry for the ramble. Again, a great site, brill tips and advice, I get lost in it for hours.
Thanks in advance,
Chris
