It’s not too much heat for 304 stainless. It’s perfectly fine for stainless. What Brad is saying it’s too heavily oxidised for titanium and to illuminate these oxides you need to reduce heat input* as well as well weld it under a perfect inert blanket.Why is that to much heat in the bit in my picture it's 3mm 304
Heat input reduction doesn’t mean turn down the current. More often than not that increases heat input as you are forced to reduce travel.
To get Titanium quality welds you can pick up the travel and improve the shield quality. As Brad rightly said it’s good to practice on stainless to see if you can get oxide (colour) free welds.
