Has anyone here made a recirculating heat recovery do dah for a chimney flue?
Ive got the wood/oil burner to heat the house located in my workshop, but rather than tap into the proper water loop Ive suggested to my mrs that I will heat the underfloor heating in the workshop/office from the waste heat going up the chimney.
Now Ive got a spare little dual core tank and some hardware to knock up a smaller heat store and want to dedicate one of the sealed coils to a water circuit that passes through the chimney flue also thereby having the tank heated by gas passing up the chimney from the burner below, but what about the design of coil that has to go in the chimney itself?
Id presume stainless with some means to remove it for carbon removal etc? What about safety devices/flaps to duct the hot gasses away from the coil when the tank is up to temp etc. Obviously dont want to design something that will just build pressure then blow off through its safeties every time the heat storage tank gets full...
What sort of bore coil and how many turns would be best in a 180mm flue pipe?
Ideas, observations , comments all useful. Im sure you can buy commercial ones, but I have a feeling they will be far outside something I can justify to heat the workshop
