We have a small flock of chickens and plan to expand it. As part of the expansion program we are going to build the chicken love shack. Where a boys chicken and a few girls shall live.
They will lay eggs, eggs go in the incubator, chicks come out of the incubator, chicks grow up into chickens, the chickens will go in the ....................... freezer
Most folk make these out off wood, I don't like wood. it rots, needs painting and worst off all it has lots and lots of little gaps where red mite and other creepy crawlies live. The logic behind steel is it won't need much if any painting and i can jet wash it with chemicals to clean it up.
The intention is to make something reasonably comfy for a chicken, but chickens ain't overly fussy
now i am limited to 1mtr wide on metal work as that is how wide my folder is.
First off make up a frame that is on two runners that will let it skid around the grass with a nice big door for access to the living quarters. It will be moved every few days so they have some fresh grass to eat and before the pile of pooh gets too big
The door has folded edges which sit into a frame to stop water getting inside. the frame is made from 50mm box section sliced in two
The side facing the run is fixed with a hole for the chickens to pop in and out of with a section sticking out the side panel.
Which is where the food will go
So a hopper type feeder will go there which will be attached to run. So when i move the run the feed comes with it. >mental note must clean out the plasma cutting bench<
Sorry for the crappy pics as i am just using a iphone/ipad which have terrible cameras
