Any ideas for the cheapskate approach to going through the process of organising planning drawings, building regs drawings, then more detailed construction drawings for a house conversion?
I have an ambitious plan to knock a bunch of walls down, alter stairs, change floor levels, add in a few windows and a garage door etc. My budget doesn't match my plan and I don't want to compromise quality so it'll be a DIY build with the help of a builder. I'm happy to camp for a year.
First mainstream quote from architects for all the figuring out and drawings is £10k. I'm a mechanical engineer and can draw things myself for much less than £75/hour. Would probably want some help from an architect technician and structural engineer as I don't know the rules for houses.
Thing with an architect is I might get some cheaper ideas to achieve much the same thing. Don't know which way to go, still to talk to some other people, and I'm rambling on. Anyone been through this process that can recommend a way of getting through without spending more than I have to?
