I have been wanting one of these for a while dose anyone know where is the cheapest place to buy a Speedglas 9100xx? or maybe someone has one for sale that they don't use etc
I think I got mine from Rapid welding.
what do all think of the helmet
My esab has external controls. I think it's the worst idea on any lid. I have to take it off everytime I want to adjust and I'm always knocking them outWell....
I bought a 9100X (not the larger screen XX)...
As I use a cheater lens behind the auto lens. Size wise the cheater lens covers the smaller 9100X lens exactly. So the bigger lens would be a waste of money!
Another point to take into consideration is the 9100X has a solar cell where the bigger 9100XX does not.
I paid extra (the earth) for the added on throat and head protector. As I am a car mechanic and most of my welding is overhead.
Total cost for the 9100X with both head and protectors was £311.00
I normally use an Optrel E680 (which I liked). But it broke after years of use!
Positives. The Speedglas helmet is light. Plus I really like the side windows.
Negatives. I cannot get on with "stretchy front headband" very well! But as with every new helmet, you seem to spend hours playing with the adjustments till you get it right.
I also own a Jackson shadow helmet with a retrofit auto screen in it (very battered, but I like it).
I also have a Optrel E680 built onto a hardhat. Which really works well! (site work fitting engines on fishing boats)
Conclusion...
I went for a Speedglas helmet. As you can buy every spare individually to keep it going.
I had problems buying Optrel spares.
The Speedglas was cheaper than an Optrel replacement.
I am very hard on welding helmets. They get a very hard life in my hands! Spares is a high priority for me!
But to be honest... I had a Superglas white pipeliner for years with a rubber headband. I never had a problem with it (till I lost it). These don't seem to be available now in the UK.
I often use the Speedglas in fixed lens mode and "nod it down"
Optel versus Speedglas?
Some people complain about Optrel controls being on the outside of the helmet, I never have had a problem with this set up!
Personally. I think "head fit". Getting the helmet on your head in the right place, is the biggest issue.
So my old Superglas pipeliner with a rubber head band wins head down!

That's the one. These are nice lids.Richard do you mean the 3350 ???
That's the one. These are nice lids.
I've seen em for around the £200 mark. Which is reasonable considering they are a top line mask with the Miller , 9100xx, Esab new tech etc
That is a good deal. I would look into that but I doubt I need a 3rd lidRapid welding do them for £180 and you get free lincoln gloves, bag and hat. not a bad deal, i bet the gloves, bag and hat are worth £60 easily.
