Hi,
I took the plunge and did my first re-spray with a compressor and gravity fed gun this weekend.
When I did the primer coats, I found the spray gun worked well straight out of the box and I didn't need to change any settings. I ran thinners through the gun when I'd finished with the primer and guide coat.
After flattening the primer, I went on to black cellulose. Now I found the spray seemed to be mostly air with little paint content. Occasionally it seemed to spray properly and wet the surface, but most of the time I was getting really poor coverage.
I tried reducing the airflow at the gun, cleaning out the aircap and nozzles and reducing the pressure but it didn't make much difference. In the end I laid down about five coats, with the last one a 75% thinner coat. But the finish I've got is matt and very rough to the touch.
Any thoughts on what was going wrong?
Any
