I used to work for a builders merchants & we used to get apprentices sent in for red lamp oil for the old road lamps. We just sent them on to the other merchant down the road.
I sent an apprentice for a bucket of steam once. He came back saying he couldn't keep it in, told him to put a bit of card on top of the bucket, so off he went and dutifully returned a while later with said bucket and card.
