Type restrictions would be the obvious answer.I am still trying to understand why, when an engine is seemingly taken well over its design limits and destroyed, why would anyone try to go to the extent of trying to go to the trouble of reinforce another one in an untested way instead of using another engine make that will give as good if not better performance.
I wouldn't call that a block problem, that size increase by overboring is +3mm! That is a substantial over bore.Had a read of @Morris link they had a block problem reason poor casting (not concentric) when they cut it up so went to Type 33 block.
Remember the Ford blocks for x flow 711s right block type then look at the clock the higher No meant the mould had had more use so slightly thicker casting..
